Tight Security At Nomination Centres: Kadapa SP
Kadapa police have tightened security at local body election nomination centres, with restrictions imposed after clashes and alleged stone-pelting in Pulivendula.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure peaceful and free filing of nominations for local body elections, Kadapa SP Shelke Nacheket Vishwanath said on Saturday.
Addressing a press conference at the Pulivendula RDO office along with collector Dr Sridhar Cherukuri and DIG Koya Praveen, the SP said the nomination process had remained peaceful in most parts of the district, barring a few incidents.
Restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) have been in force since Friday. Candidates have been instructed to comply with limits on vehicles and the number of people accompanying them.
In Pulivendula, around 500 people allegedly gathered near the nomination centre and attempted to proceed as a group. Police resorted to a lathi-charge, used tear gas and fired a few rounds in the air after stones were allegedly pelted at them, Vishwanath said.
The restrictions will continue on Sunday, and violations will invite legal action, the SP warned.
