YSRC Lodges Four Complaints Alleging TD Violence at Nomination Centre
In Rajampeta and Darsi, TD leaders allegedly snatched and destroyed nomination papers.
VIJAYAWADA: The YSRC has lodged four complaints with the State Election Commission alleging that Telugu Desam workers used violence and intimidation to prevent its candidates from filing nominations for municipal elections in Kadapa, Tirupati, Rayachoti, Rajampeta and Darsi.
YSRC state general secretary and MLC Lella Appi Reddy sought the commission’s intervention, demanding action against those responsible, an independent inquiry into police conduct, impartial security and additional opportunities for affected candidates to file nominations.
In Kadapa, TD workers allegedly surrounded nomination centres, prevented YSRC candidates from entering and tore nomination papers, including documents held by an assistant returning officer, in the presence of police. They also allegedly gathered with knives near the YSRC office and attacked Murad, son of a former corporator.
In Tirupati, police allegedly prevented MP Dr M. Gurumoorthy from proposing the nomination of mayoral candidate Vasu Yadav, while TD workers allegedly tore nomination papers. At MR Palli, a woman candidate was allegedly assaulted and the clothes of women party workers were torn. Appi Reddy alleged that police booked Bhumana Karunakar Reddy and Abhinay instead of those responsible for the attacks.
In Rayachoti, TD workers allegedly attempted to attack municipal chairperson candidate Jinna Shareef near Manasa Restaurant and vandalised his vehicle. Police shifted him between stations, while former MLA Srikanth Reddy was allegedly prevented from entering the town.
In Rajampeta and Darsi, TD leaders allegedly snatched and destroyed nomination papers.
Appi Reddy said violence and intimidation would undermine the credibility of democratic elections and urged the State Election Commission to take action.
