Tiger Killed in Road Mishap Near Macherla
Forest and police launch joint probe to trace unidentified vehicle near Sirigiripadu
Vijayawada: A tiger was killed after being hit by an unidentified vehicle on National Highway 565 near Sirigiripadu village in Veldurti mandal of Macherla constituency in Palnadu district during the early hours of Tuesday.
Forest officials rushed to the spot after receiving information and conducted an inspection. According to Vijayapuri South Range forest range officer V Sujatha, the forest range has four tigers, one of which died in the accident.
Officials said a case had been registered and a joint investigation by the forest and police departments was underway to trace the vehicle involved.
Local residents expressed concern over the incident and demanded strict measures to prevent such mishaps in the future. They stressed the need for stronger wildlife protection measures along highways passing through forested areas.
