Vijayawada:The Telugu Desam on Wednesday used its Mahanadu-2026 platform to highlight its organisational structure, welfare initiatives and focus on youth, women and minority welfare, with leaders projecting the party as a socially inclusive and development-oriented force.

Addressing delegates on party structure, TD leader M.A. Sharif said the party was founded by NT Rama Rao to uphold the self-respect of Telugu people. He said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu strengthened NTR’s vision by promoting IT and higher education and creating opportunities for youth.

Sharif said the party believed in empowering grassroots workers and described it as one of the few parties with a strong democratic organisational system. He said Chandrababu Naidu introduced computerised membership registration as early as 1985, bringing technology into politics ahead of its time. He also said the party ensured social justice by giving representation to all sections in its politburo and state committees.

MLA Yanamala Divya said women’s safety had become a social necessity rather than only a policing issue. She said the party, from NTR’s era to the leadership of Nara Lokesh, had consistently focused on women’s empowerment and protection.

Speaking on the “Yuvagalam” resolution, MLC Kavali Greeshma said Nara Lokesh’s 226-day, 3,132-km padayatra helped the party connect directly with youth. She said the government had initiated employment generation for 6.28 lakh people within 23 months and signed investment agreements worth Rs 23 lakh crore, with a target of 24 lakh jobs in the future.

She said over 15,000 teacher posts were filled through Mega DSC, along with police recruitment drives, while skill development programmes, job fairs and MSME promotion had created employment opportunities for youth.

Minister Kollu Ravindra highlighted BC welfare initiatives, including increasing reservations in local bodies from 20 per cent to 34 per cent and implementing the Adarana scheme with 90 per cent subsidy for modern tools.

TD national vice-president Nazir Ahmed said the coalition government had increased allocations for minority welfare, Haj assistance, Urdu Academy funding and scholarships for minority students.
