VIJAYAWADA: Three Booth Level Officers (BLOs) assigned to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Guntur West Assembly constituency have been suspended for alleged negligence after failing to collect their duty allocation orders.

The action was taken on the directions of Guntur Municipal Corporation commissioner and electoral registration officer (ERO) K. Mayur Ashok. Acting on the orders, Guntur West ERO G. Sambasiva Rao issued suspension orders against P. Sai Srikanth, P. Durga Prasad and B. Mahesh Babu.

The commissioner expressed displeasure over the officials’ failure to take charge of responsibilities entrusted to them under the voter list revision programme being carried out as per Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines.

The Special Intensive Revision exercise is underway across the Guntur Municipal Corporation limits from June 15 to July 14. Authorities are conducting a door-to-door survey to ensure preparation of an error-free electoral roll.

Appealing to voters and political parties to cooperate, the commissioner said BLOs are distributing enumeration forms to every household and collecting completed forms for digitisation through an online system.

Providing details of the progress achieved so far, he said 60,332 enumeration forms have been distributed in Guntur East constituency out of a total electorate of 2,52,062, covering 23.94 per cent of voters. Of these, 346 forms have already been digitised.

In Guntur West constituency, 52,609 forms have been distributed among 2,78,555 voters, accounting for 18.89 per cent coverage. So far, 393 forms have been digitised.

The commissioner urged voters to verify their details carefully, complete the forms accurately and submit them to the concerned BLOs at the earliest to ensure a correct and error-free electoral roll.
