Sana Satish Groundwork Helped Him Secure TD’s Full-Term Rajya Sabha Ticket
Kapu leader wins renomination amid competition from Yanamala.
Kakinada: Sana Satish, belonging to the Kapu community, is already a member of the Rajya Sabha from Telugu Desam. He entered the Rajya Sabha one-and-a-half years ago after YSRC Upper House member Mopidevi Venkata Ramana quit the post.
With his re-nomination, Satish has succeeded in getting a full term of six years in the RS under the Kapu quota. Incidentally, in recent times, he has made statements in favour of the Telugu Desam on behalf of Kapus when opposition YSRC had been attacking the alliance government for undermining the interests of Kapus.
It is a foregone conclusion that the Kapu leader will retain his Rajya Sabha membership from the Telugu Desam given the numbers. However, Satish had to face a stiff competition from senior Telugu Desam leader Yanamala Ramakrishnudu for the post in the Upper house.
Entering central politics as a Rajya Sabha member had long been a dream of Ramakrishnudu. He had been confident that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu would nominate him for the RS post since he had been with the Telugu Desam Party since its inception. Ramakrishnudu is also very vocal in projecting the TD line successfully in different cases, particularly difficult ones. Further, he is a strong supporter of Chandrababu Naidu.
Despite all these credentials, Ramakrishnudu failed in getting the RS ticket. However, his followers in Tuni Assembly constituency are confident that the party high command will do justice to their leader by giving an important post.
Knowing that his Upper House post will remain only for about 18 months, Sana Satish had not been lax in assuming charge as the RS member. He maintained relations with the people of his community and opened a grievance cell in his camp office near Kakinada to address the problems of general people in Kakinada district.
Significantly, the Kapu leader is the general secretary of BCCI and is believed to be close to J. Shah, the son of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is the president of BCCI. Satish is well-connected at the centre. There is an opinion that the Telugu Desam Party wants to use his influence to get things done in New Delhi.
After receiving information that Satish is one of the three nominees of Telugu Desam for the Rajya Sabha membership, TD leaders, cadres, and his followers celebrated uninhibitedly, including with dances to the spirited beats of traditional drums.
Speaking on the occasion, the Kapu leader’s office in-charge Meka Lakshmana Murthy described party chief and Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s decision to nominate Sana Satish Babu for another Rajya Sabha term as recognition of his loyalty, commitment, and service to the party.
