Nellore: Abandoned Toddler Girl Rescued In Prakasam District

NELLORE: A two-year-old girl found wandering alone and crying under the scorching sun in Kopparam village of Santamaguluru mandal was rescued and provided shelter through the coordinated efforts of police, child welfare officials and a voluntary organisation.

Local residents noticed the distressed child on Saturday afternoon and alerted Santamaguluru police after she was unable to identify her parents or hometown. Police personnel, along with villagers, conducted an extensive search in Kopparam and nearby villages till late in the evening, but failed to trace her family.

The matter was then brought to the notice of HELP voluntary organisation project director B.V. Sagar, who informed district child protection officer P. Dinesh Kumar. Acting swiftly, Dinesh Kumar referred the case to Prakasam district women and child welfare officer P. Nagamani, who directed that the child undergo medical examination.

The toddler was taken to RIMS Hospital, Ongole, where doctors confirmed that she was in good health. Following the recommendations of the child welfare committee and with the support of Santamaguluru police and Anganwadi worker C.H. Haimavathi, the child was admitted to the government-run Shishu Gruha at Ramnagar, Ongole, under the women and child welfare department.

Efforts are on to trace the child's parents and relatives.
