RTC to Launch EV Buses to ASR Airport on Aug 16

Visakhapatnam:The APSRTC will launch 20 air-conditioned electric buses connecting Visakhapatnam city with the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram from August 16, a day before commercial flight operations begin at the airport.

RTC regional manager T. Appala Naidu said a formal inauguration would be held at the police barracks in Visakhapatnam city on August 15. The minister who would attend the event as chief guest had not yet been decided.

One service will operate from Gajuwaka via NAD Junction to Bhogapuram airport at a fare of `400 per passenger, while another will run from RTC Complex to the airport at `300 per passenger.

The 12-metre-long air-conditioned electric buses will have a capacity of 35 to 40 passengers each and will be equipped with air suspension and wheelchair accessibility features. They will also have automatic doors, onboard CCTV cameras and public address systems.

Charging infrastructure has been established at Gajuwaka depot, Dwaraka Bus Station and Bhogapuram Airport.

The regional manager said another 80 electric buses would soon be deployed in Visakhapatnam city to reduce hydrocarbon pollution and ease traffic.
