CPM Seeks Merger Of Six Villages With KMC By Month-End

Communist Party of India – Marxist (CPM), Kakinada Rural unit, has requested the state government to issue a gazette notification merging six villages in Kakinada Rural mandal with the Kakinada Municipal Corporation (KMC), increase the number of divisions in the corporation and conduct elections thereafter.

The villages are Turangi, Indrapalem, Chidiga, Valasapakala, Vakalapudi and Ramanayyapeta.

A CPM delegation submitted a memorandum in this regard to Kakinada Rural MLA Pantham Venkateswara Rao (Nanaji), former MLA Pilli Anantha Lakshmi, and Telugu Desam senior leader Pilli Satyanarayana Murthy.

CPM Kakinada Rural convener Tirumalasetti Nageswara Rao said the absence of elected local bodies in the six villages for the past 15 years has affected local development due to a lack of funds. He pointed out that residents of the villages and the CPM had organised agitations, along with Nanaji when he had been in the opposition during the YSRC regime, demanding the merger of these villages with the KMC. Nanaji had also raised the issue in assembly sessions, Nageswara Rao underlined.

He said under G.O. No. 65 issued on March 24, 2026, the KMC, after including the population of six villages, would have to reorganise the corporation into 68 divisions based on population figures.

As the Election Commission is scheduled to release the voter list on September 3, the CPM demanded that the government complete the merger process of the six villages with the KMC by the end of August.

The CPM delegation members included Peddinsetti Ramakrishna, Chintapalli Ajay Kumar, T. Raja, and Suryam.
