PSUs Celebrate Independence Day With Focus on Growth, Infrastructure
Highlighting their achievements and future growth plans in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat
Visakhapatnam: Major public sector undertakings in Visakhapatnam celebrated the 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour, highlighting their achievements and future growth plans in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat.
At the Port Golden Jubilee Stadium, Visakhapatnam Port Authority chairman J.S. Bhindra unfurled the National Flag and said the port achieved its highest-ever annual cargo throughput of 91.17 million metric tonnes in 2025-26, registering a 10.34 per cent growth over the previous year. During April-July 2026, the port handled 32.10 million tonnes, nearly 13 per cent higher than the corresponding period last year.
Expressing confidence that the VPA would cross the 100-million-tonne cargo milestone this year, he also highlighted the Rs 78-crore modernisation of the Visakhapatnam Fishing Harbour and the port’s role in handling nearly 50 per cent of India’s seafood exports.
South Coast Railway celebrated its first Independence Day after becoming the country’s 18th railway zone on June 1, 2026. General Manager Sandeep Mathur hoisted the National Flag and highlighted major achievements, including the commissioning of digital signalling systems, renewal of 114.2 km of track, implementation of KAVACH in 719 locomotives and infrastructure projects worth Rs 1.25 lakh crore. He also highlighted progress in station redevelopment and passenger amenities across the zone.
The Dredging Corporation of India (DCI) outlined its Rs 7,500-crore business plan to expand its fleet and increase its annual dredging capacity to 176 million cubic metres by 2036. The corporation aims to meet the entire maintenance dredging requirements of India’s major ports and reduce dependence on foreign dredging companies.
At Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), CMD M.N.V.S. Prabhakar reaffirmed the steel plant’s commitment to nation-building, saying every tonne of steel produced would strengthen Atma Nirbhar Bharat. He expressed confidence that the organisation would overcome its present challenges through unity, dedication and collective effort.
