Protest at SV Government Polytechnic Over Alleged Religious Teaching
BJP leader Bhanu Prakash said educational institutions must remain strictly academic spaces and should not permit religious preaching
Nellore: Tension prevailed at the Sri Venkateswara Government Polytechnic College in Tirupati after allegations surfaced that a woman lecturer had spoken about Jesus Christ during classroom teaching earlier this week, triggering protests by Hindu organisations.
According to sources, students recorded a video of the lecture delivered by lecturer Madhavi and circulated it on social media, where it went viral. Hindu groups staged a protest on the college premises on Saturday, accusing the lecturer of religious propagation and demanding her removal.
A complaint was submitted to the in-charge principal, who said the matter would be referred to higher authorities for appropriate action.
The issue also drew a sharp response from the Bharatiya Janata Party. BJP leader Bhanu Prakash demanded the immediate suspension of the lecturer and called for criminal cases to be registered to prevent similar incidents in the future. He said educational institutions must remain strictly academic spaces and should not permit religious preaching.
Meanwhile, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) issued a clarification distancing itself from the controversy. In a press release, TTD stated that the Sri Venkateswara Government Polytechnic College has no connection with the organisation and urged the media not to link it to the alleged incident.
