Anantapur: A 62-year-old teacher N. Rajashekar Reddy has proved that age is no barrier when he donated blood for helping children suffering from thalassemia.

Inspired by the Manavata Blood Donors Association, he has been regularly donating blood since 2004.

Rajashekar Reddy’s unwavering commitment to donating blood has been recognised at a Women Empowerment Programme organised in Hindupur by Sri Sathya Sai district police ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8.

District SP S. Satish Kumar felicitated Rajasekhar Reddy and other blood donors. Incidentally, the teacher executed a will in 2010, pledging donation of his body to a medical college for research.

Rajashekar Reddy has appealed, particularly to government employees, teachers, and police personnel, to regularly donate blood and help the needy.

On the occasion, All India Tippu Blood Donation Association founder Umar Farooq Khan said so far, their organisation has provided blood to over 23,000 thalassemia children, pregnant women undergoing operation, accident victims and anaemia patients across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka.
