Pet Dog In Tuni Missing Girl Case Dies
Police had procured a GPS collar from Hyderabad for the five-month-old dog, with the hope that it will help them trace the girl. But the dog suddenly died on Saturday afternoon at the oil palm plantation from where the girl had gone missing.
KAKINADA: The pet dog of the missing two-and-a-half-year-old girl of Ch. Agraharam, a hamlet in Dondawaka panchayat of Tuni Rural mandal in Kakinada district, has died.
Police had procured a GPS collar from Hyderabad for the five-month-old dog, with the hope that it will help them trace the girl. But the dog suddenly died on Saturday afternoon at the oil palm plantation from where the girl had gone missing. The two-and-a-half-year-old had left home on June 6 looking for her father who had been working on the 50-acre farm. At the time, the dog too had followed her.
Sources said for the past two days, the missing girl’s dog had neither been having food or drinking water sufficiently. The death of the dog has come as a shock, as there had been hopes that it would help lead the search parties to the missing girl.
About 10 police teams are continuing to look for the girl as of Saturday night.
In the interim, police have attracted criticism from animal activists for the way they dealt with the pet dog. Animal Rescue Organisation secretary Gopal R. Surabathula accused the police of failure in dealing with the pet dog. He observed that when the first time the dog returned home, it fled away from the spot after finding it crowded with police and people.
When the dog returned after two days, police caught it and put it in a cage. They then went on to forcibly collar it with GPS. The Animal Rescue Organisation secretary contended that the dog has not been dealt with the tenderness that it deserved. The animal too had been upset with the girl going missing.
With the passage of a week since the girl has gone missing, pressure is building on police to trace her. The case has already attracted widespread attention in the two Telugu states.
