The Amalapuram MP told they should prepare the people of surrounding villages in dealing with such mishaps
KAKINADA: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC)’s Crisis Management Team has extinguished the fire and capped the Mori-5 well at Irusumanda village in Malikipuram mandal of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district on Saturday.
The blowout at the well, followed by huge flames, occurred on January 5. Many people of Irusumanda and surrounding villages ran for their lives. The Crisis Management team waited for the flames to decrease in their intensity with depletion of gas. The team finally extinguished the fire and capped the well on Saturday morning.
The debris surrounding the blowout site has already been removed.
In an official statement, ONGC said that the company has controlled the fire at Well Mori-5 and completed the capping operation within a record time of five days. The corporation described the effort “marks a significant achievement in blowout response and operational excellence.”
ONGC thanked the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the state government, Konaseema district administration and the community for their vital cooperation and support in timely resolution of the incident.
The corporation also expressed its gratitude to Amalapuram MP G. Harish Mathur, Razole MLA D. Vara Prasad, and district collector R. Mahesh Kumar and his team.
The Amalapuram MP told Deccan Chronicle that he has told ONGC as well as the PEC operator Deep Industries Limited to create awareness among people about their work. They should prepare the people of surrounding villages in dealing with such mishaps.
