Vijayawada:Water resources authorities are to install a new regulator and bridge the breached portions of the two bunds by arranging sandbags to the Repalle Main Drain at Gudavalli of Cherukupalli mandal in Bapatla district on Friday.

It may be mentioned that on Thursday, the regulator on the RM Drain caved in as the drain bed was scoured, and the two sides of the small portions of bunds supporting the regulator also suffered breaches for the reason that the drain got intake of water to a height of seven feet as the farmers stored the water intending to use it for raising crops with no proper rainfall and availability of water for the crops due to the El Nino effect.

Guntur water resources superintending engineer P. Venkata Ratnam said, “We are arranging sand bags to bridge the breached portions of two bunds immediately to the RM Drain and also making arrangements to install a new regulator as the existing one caved in. As the structure is aged 25-30 years and with a huge inflow of water, two bunds suffered breach, and the regulator caved in with the drain bed getting scoured.”
