NDA Completed 80% of Polavaram Works: BJP
Satya Kumar Yadav said the Centre had spent Rs 20,500 crore on the project since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister.
Kakinada: BJP state president P.V.N. Madhav on Thursday said the NDA government had completed 80 per cent of the Polavaram Irrigation Project and that water would soon be released through its canals.
Speaking during a visit to the project, Madhav described Polavaram as a prestigious national project and the lifeline of Andhra Pradesh. He said the project was being implemented as part of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act and that the merger of seven mandals from Telangana had facilitated its execution.
He alleged that the project suffered delays due to neglect during the previous YSRC government's tenure and said all pending issues would be resolved through the Polavaram Project Authority. He added that the project would benefit neighbouring states and serve as a multipurpose irrigation project.
Union minister for Steel and Heavy Industries Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma, Health Minister Y. Satya Kumar Yadav, Rajamahendravaram MP D. Purandeswari, MLC Somu Veerraju, BJP Legislature Party leader Penmetsa Vishnu Kumar Raju and other BJP leaders inspected the project works.
Satya Kumar Yadav said the Centre had spent Rs 20,500 crore on the project since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister. Officials informed the delegation that the Rs 2,800-crore hydel power project was expected to be completed within a year, while the irrigation tunnel works would be completed within a month. They said only a small portion of the regulator works remained pending, though backwater issues continued to pose challenges.
Earlier, BJP leaders paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and unfurled the party flag at the project site.
