Left Parties Seek Withdrawal Of PD Act Against Farmers’ Leader
The parties alleged misuse of the PD Act to intimidate people’s movements, noting that Appalaraju had been supporting farmers, agricultural labourers, fisherfolk, Dalit and tribal families.
VIJAYAWADA: Ten Left parties on Thursday demanded the immediate withdrawal of the Preventive Detention (PD) Act imposed on Anakapalli district farmers’ association secretary and CPM district committee member M. Appalaraju, terming the action arbitrary and illegal. They also sought his unconditional release.
In a joint statement, the parties said Appalaraju was falsely implicated to suppress democratic protests against land acquisition and livelihood-related projects. They pointed out that the detention order cited 19 cases registered between May 2013 and December 10, 2025, of which two ended in acquittal, 12 were closed, and four remain under investigation, mostly under Section 151 of the CrPC.
The parties alleged misuse of the PD Act to intimidate people’s movements, noting that Appalaraju had been supporting farmers, agricultural labourers, fisherfolk, Dalit and tribal families.
They appealed to citizens and democratic organisations to oppose the detention and press the government to revoke the PD Act.
YSRC alleges bail violations by Chandrababu Naidu
VIJAYAWADA: The YSR Congress on Thursday accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of violating bail conditions by allegedly influencing institutions to close multiple criminal cases against him, and said it would pursue the matter up to the Supreme Court. Addressing the media, YSRC general secretary and former additional advocate general Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy alleged that Naidu misused police and investigative agencies to secure case closures on the ground of “mistake of fact”. He claimed this amounted to interference with due process.
Sudhakar Reddy recalled that Naidu had spent 53 days in jail in the Skill Development Corporation case involving an alleged `371-crore scam, but the case was closed despite a quash petition pending before the apex court.
He further alleged that cases related to the Inner Ring Road, assigned lands and liquor were also being closed under pressure, and said the YSRC would seek judicial scrutiny to ensure accountability.
