KRMB to Meet Again on Sept 4 as AP, Telangana Fail to Agree on Water Sharing
Murthy said the two states had agreed in principle on the use of available water from the projects to meet drinking water requirements in view of the El Nino effect.
Vijayawada:The Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) failed to finalise the sharing of available Krishna water between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana at a meeting in Hyderabad on Monday and decided to meet again on September 4.
The meeting, chaired by KRMB member secretary Satish Kamboj, discussed the sharing of available water from the Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar projects. Andhra Pradesh water resources engineer-in-chief K. Narasimha Murthy and his Telangana counterpart Ramesh Babu attended the meeting.
Murthy said the two states had agreed in principle on the use of available water from the projects to meet drinking water requirements in view of the El Nino effect.
“We have agreed in principle for usage of available water in both the projects to meet drinking water requirements in the wake of El Nino effect. We have estimated the water requirement to be 47 tmcft from June to October, 2026 for AP while Telangana has come up with an annual requirement of water from August, 2026 to August, 2027. With this, no agreement with regard to water requirement has been finalised and we will also prepare an annual requirement and attend the meeting next time.”
Andhra Pradesh will prepare its annual water requirement and present it at the next meeting, scheduled for September 4.
