KVK Periyavaram Gets New Administrative Building
Dr Rajbir Singh stresses single-window services, farmer training and rural agri-entrepreneurship
Tirupati: Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi, Dr Rajbir Singh, inaugurated the new administrative building of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) at Periyavaram in Venkatagiri on Monday.
Speaking at the programme, Dr Singh said KVKs should be strengthened to take agricultural innovations and research outcomes to farmers. He called for implementing the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan and Khet Bachao Abhiyan at the village level.
He stressed the need for a single-window system through which farmers could access technical information, quality seeds, planting material and extension services. He also called for expanding KVK outreach and said skill development among rural youth could create opportunities in agri-entrepreneurship.
Dr Singh later visited a horticultural exhibition organised at the KVK, where varieties of pummelo, acid lime, sweet orange and banana were displayed along with value-added and natural farming products.
Dr Y.S.R. Horticultural University vice-chancellor Dr K. Dhananjaya Rao said the university had four KVKs, five horticultural colleges and 20 research stations. He said the university had released 38 horticultural varieties, including 13 recognised nationally.
Other speakers stressed the need to expand farmer training, demonstrations and technical advisories.
