Vijayawada: In a significant development, the Union Government has appointed former Telugu Desam MP Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar as an Additional Solicitor General of India (ASGI), entrusting him with a major constitutional responsibility at the national level.

An official notification issued by the Centre said he would serve in the post for three years.

ASGI is one of the eminent legal offices in the judicial system. The incumbent represented the central government before the Supreme Court in crucial constitutional and policy-related matters.

Ravindra Kumar’s appointment is seen as recognition of his vast legal experience, professional competence and long-standing engagement with constitutional matters.

Legal and political circles have welcomed the decision, noting that Ravindra Kumar has maintained an active presence both in public life and in the legal profession.

With his elevation as ASGI, he would play a pivotal role in articulating and defending the Centre’s stand in sensitive and high-stakes constitutional disputes before the apex court.

Following the announcement, Ravindra Kumar met chief minister Chandrababu Naidu. Naidu congratulated him and wished him all the best in his future endeavours.
