Jagan Accuses Naidu of Claiming Credit for Veligonda
Jagan Mohan Reddy said the Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy government had taken up construction of the twin tunnels, Nallamala Sagar, three dams, feeder canals and main channels.
Vijayawada:Former chief minister and YSRC president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Sunday accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of trying to claim credit for the Veligonda project.
Jagan Mohan Reddy said the project’s history was clear, with Naidu laying its foundation stone in 1996, while former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had taken up its comprehensive construction and his government had completed key portions of the twin tunnels.
He alleged that the foundation stone was laid in 1996 as part of a pre-election exercise and that Naidu’s government did little to take the project forward during its eight years in power until 2004. He claimed that only ₹10 lakh had been spent during the period, including on the foundation-laying event and arrangements.

He said the 37.58-km twin tunnels were the lifeline of the Veligonda project, without which Krishna water could not reach the region. The Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy government completed 20.333 km of the tunnels, while the TDP government progressed 6.686 km between 2014 and 2019, he claimed.
He also alleged that the TDP government could not achieve a breakthrough in even one of the tunnels during that period.
