ANANTAPUR: The Forum of Registered Teacher Organisations (FORTO) has launched a statewide campaign urging Members of Parliament to amend the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009, to provide permanent exemption from the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for in-service teachers.
FORTO leaders, including chairman Karanam Harikrishna, secretary-general Ankala Kondaiah, working president Dr D. Seenu and working general secretary Maganti Srinivasa Rao, said petitions were being submitted to MPs across the state. They submitted a representation to Anantapur MP Ambica Lakshminarayana.
The leaders said in-service teachers had entered government service after meeting the eligibility criteria prescribed at the time of their recruitment and argued that it was unfair to require them to appear for the TET again.
They said making TET mandatory for serving teachers was causing mental stress and uncertainty over job security. They urged MPs to amend the RTE Act to grant permanent exemption from the TET to all in-service teachers.
