Dr Somaraju Lauds Guntur Medical College Development
Dr Somaraju offered to institute a Best Teacher Award at his own expense to encourage faculty members who excel in teaching medical students.
Vijayawada:Eminent cardiologist Dr B. Somaraju on Thursday visited Guntur Medical College and appreciated its development, recalling his association with the institution where he pursued his MD.
Dr Somaraju offered to institute a Best Teacher Award at his own expense to encourage faculty members who excel in teaching medical students. He discussed the proposal with Guntur Medical College principal Dr N.V. Sundarachari and Government General Hospital, Guntur, superintendent.
Dr Sundarachari took Dr Somaraju around the campus and explained the medical education being imparted to students and the functioning of various departments, laboratories and other academic facilities.
Speaking during the visit, Dr Somaraju said there was a significant difference between the Guntur Medical College he had seen earlier and the institution he was visiting now. He appreciated Dr Sundarachari and the donors who had contributed to the college’s development.
Recalling his association with the institution, Dr Somaraju said he was happy to return to his alma mater and stressed the need to encourage faculty members to further improve the quality of medical education.
Dr Somaraju had worked with eminent scientist and former President Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on the development of the Kalam-Raju stent.
Dr Sundarachari said it was a matter of pride for the college that Dr Somaraju had visited the institution, appreciated its development and offered to recognise outstanding teachers.
