Champion Farmers Should Act as Brand Ambassadors: Collector Himanshu Shukla
Champion farmers from the agriculture, horticulture and animal husbandry sectors shared their experiences and suggestions during the interaction
NELLORE: District collector Himanshu Shukla has urged farmers to adopt market-driven cultivation practices to improve incomes and respond to changing agricultural trends.
Addressing a Kisan Goshti organised by the agriculture and allied departments at the N.G. Ranga Agricultural Research Station on Thursday, the collector said champion farmers should act as brand ambassadors and motivate at least 10 other farmers each. He set a target of developing around 7,000 champion farmers across nearly 700 villages in the district.
The Champion Farmer concept was introduced in SPSR Nellore district to bridge the gap between farmers and agricultural scientists.
Emphasising demand-based cultivation, Shukla advised farmers to select crops based on market requirements to secure better returns. He said adoption of technology and modern farming practices was essential for sustainable growth in the agriculture sector.
Referring to advanced farming systems he had observed abroad, including in Amsterdam, the Collector said automation and technology had significantly improved productivity. He encouraged farmers to embrace innovation and adapt to changing agricultural conditions.
