TIRUPATI: Kalluru police arrested five members of an interstate burglary gang and recovered gold and silver ornaments worth about ₹90 lakh in connection with four theft cases in Chittoor district.

Chittoor DSP J. Venkata Narayana said at a press meet on Sunday that the accused were arrested near Deenabandhapuram on Saturday based on credible information. They were allegedly involved in four burglary cases reported in Kalluru, Palasamudram, Gangadhara Nellore and Thavanampalle mandals.

The main accused, R. Dinesh, 25, has 18 theft cases registered against him, while another accused, Balayya Chiranjeevi, 34, has four cases, including a murder case. The other three were identified as S.U. Jagan, 19, S. Vasanth Kumar, 19, and D. Silambarasan, 19, from Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu and Chittoor district.

The case came to light after burglars allegedly broke open the locks of Sri Krishna Jewellery on Punganur Road in Kalluru on July 17 and stole around 314 grams of gold and 20 kg of silver ornaments. Special teams were formed under CI M. Jayaramayya and SI U. Venkateswarlu.

Police used technical evidence, CCTV footage and field information to trace the accused, the DSP said. During interrogation, they allegedly admitted to the four thefts and told police they had sold part of the stolen gold and silver in Vellore and Chennai and spent the money on personal needs and luxury.

Police recovered about 404 grams of gold, 17 kg of silver articles and three two-wheelers. District SP Tushar Dudi appreciated the police and crime team for detecting the gang and recovering the stolen property.
