VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh’s transmission losses fell to a record low of 2.60 per cent in 2025-26, while APgenco achieved a record generation level of 6,009 MW, highlighting the State’s improving power sector performance, said APgenco managing director S. Nagalakshmi while addressing the 80th Independence Day celebrations at Vidyut Soudha on Saturday.

Nagalakshmi said Andhra Pradesh should strive to make its power sector a national benchmark by ensuring reliable, quality and uninterrupted supply. She called for collective efforts by officials, engineers and employees to strengthen the sector.

She said the State recorded a peak power demand of 15,016 MW on May 21, 2026, while daily energy consumption touched 288.92 million units. Power generation increased from 77,640.55 million units in 2024-25 to 79,684.96 million units in 2025-26.

APGENCO’s record generation of 6,009 MW on January 3 was attributed to improved coal supply and quality, timely financial support and efficient operation and maintenance. To meet future demand, APgenco has taken up a 15,680-MW capacity expansion programme, including the Lower Sileru, Polavaram hydropower and Upper Sileru Pumped Storage projects.

Nagalakshmi said APtransco’s digitalisation, modern monitoring and predictive maintenance had helped reduce transmission losses to 2.60 per cent. The utility operates 384 EHT substations, more than 1,030 power transformers and a 33,140-circuit-km transmission network.

The state has allocated renewable energy projects totalling 112.45 GW and is promoting green hydrogen and ammonia. Under PM Surya Ghar, two lakh households had been covered with 611.29 MW of rooftop capacity, placing Andhra Pradesh sixth nationally.

She urged employees to work with renewed commitment, saying that serving the power sector was a form of service to the nation.
