West Godavari: Police in West Godavari district have solved the murder of moneylender Grandhi Bobby in Mogalthuru and arrested four people in connection with the case, which was initially mistaken for a natural death. However, a drunken confession by another person revealed the homicide, prompting the victim's son to approach the police.
M Sudhakar Rao, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) for Narasapuram, briefed reporters on Wednesday and stated that they seized 8 kg of silver, Rs 20,000 in cash and a car from the accused. He said 450 grams of gold that the accused had pledged with two corporate financing firms will be recovered soon.
As per reports, Bobby, a widower, lived alone in Mogalthuru in a rented house and ran a business, lending money against gold and silver items. Mamidisetti Kalyan Kumar, a resident of the same village, was a regular visitor who often pledged small items with him. Noticing that Bobby lived alone, Kalyan Kumar hatched a plan to rob him and took the help of three others named Meka Lakshmi Varaprasad of Bhimavaram, Chintalapudi Santosh of Ananthapalli in Nallajerla mandal, and a Mogalthuru man known as Donga Sai.
According to police, the gang murdered Bobby on June 15 and looted the cash and jewellery in his house. On the 17th of that month, neighbours noticed a foul smell coming from the house and informed his son, Pavan Kumar, who lives in Hyderabad. The body had decomposed, so it was assumed the elderly man had died naturally. After his father's death, Pavan settled the accounts with the customers who had pledged items by paying them from his own money. However, gold, silver, and the account books were still missing
Meanwhile, the case took a different turn during a drunken brawl on Peruplalem Beach; one of the individuals blurted out details about the crime, revealing that Bobby’s death was actually a murder. Pavan said that his father's death was not natural but a murder and approached the Narsapuram police immediately. They registered a case and began an investigation, and questioning of suspects brought out the facts, leading to the arrests.
