APGenco Felicitates India Spinner Shree Charani

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (APGenco) on Wednesday felicitated India women's cricketer Nallapureddy Shree Charani at Vidyut Soudha in Vijayawada, with managing director S. Nagalakshmi describing her achievement as a matter of pride for the power sector.

Nagalakshmi said Shree Charani, daughter of Rayalaseema Thermal Power Project (RTPP) employee Chandrasekhar Reddy, had added to the sporting legacy of the power sector. She noted that former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin’s father, the late Mohammad Azizuddin, had served as an accounts officer in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh State Electricity Board (APSEB), and said the emergence of two international cricketers from power sector families was a source of pride and inspiration.

Born on August 4, 2004, in Yerramalapalli village of YSR Kadapa district, Shree Charani initially played badminton and kho-kho before taking up cricket. A left-handed batter and slow left-arm orthodox spinner, she represented the Andhra women's team before earning a Women's Premier League contract with Delhi Capitals in 2025. She later made her ODI debut against Sri Lanka and her T20I debut against England.

Nagalakshmi commended Shree Charani’s performance in the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup, where she claimed 14 wickets in five matches. She also acknowledged the role of her maternal uncle, Kishore Kumar Reddy, in identifying and nurturing her talent.

Shree Charani, regarded as one of the first women cricketers from YSR Kadapa district to represent India, said it was a proud moment to be honoured by the organisation where her father works. She thanked APGenco for the recognition and expressed confidence of delivering stronger performances for the national team in future tournaments.

The felicitation ceremony was attended by Shree Charani’s family members, directors of APGenco, APTransco and APPDCL, and senior officials.
