NELLORE: Donors have contributed more than Rs 2.35 lakh towards the treatment of children suffering from thalassaemia under the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), SPSR Nellore district branch’s Thalassaemia Project.

Srinivasan Chakravarthi and his family donated Rs 2,05,500 for the purchase of essential medicines for children undergoing treatment at the Thalassaemia Unit. The Kusumaharanath Bhakta Brundam contributed Rs 30,000 for procuring medicines.

Expressing gratitude to the donors, Red Cross officials said such contributions play a vital role in ensuring uninterrupted blood transfusions, medicines and medical care for children with thalassaemia.

The organisation appealed to philanthropists, charitable organisations and members of the public to extend support to the initiative.

District Red Cross secretary P. Mastanayya, Thalassaemia Project coordinators Dr Seetha, Kamalesh Kumar Jain, Dr Sarvepalli Vijay Kumar, Yelamuri Rangaiah Naidu and Chamarthi Janardhan Raju were present.
