Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Transmission Corporation (AP Transco) is fast-tracking 68 major transmission and infrastructure projects worth nearly Rs 5,000 crore to strengthen the state’s power network and meet future energy demands driven by industrial growth and renewable energy expansion.

Chairing a high-level review meeting at Vidyut Soudha on Tuesday, chief minister’s special chief secretary K Vijayanand directed Transco officials to accelerate execution of all ongoing projects and ensure timely completion. Senior officials, including AP Transco joint managing director Surya Sai Praveen Chand, directors, chief engineers and superintending engineers, participated in the review.

Vijayanand said the projects are aimed at ensuring quality, reliable and uninterrupted power supply to agriculture, industries, commercial establishments and domestic consumers across AP. He stated that the 68 projects, currently under implementation in various stages, would add 15,274 MVA of transformation capacity and 1,822 circuit kilometres of transmission lines to the state grid upon completion.

The expanded network is expected to improve voltage levels, reduce stress on the existing transmission system and enhance grid reliability in different regions.

The special chief secretary said AP Transco had also received approval for tendering of 100 additional projects, including 12 projects at 400kv level and 88 projects at 220kvV and 132kv levels. These projects are being planned strategically to strengthen long-term energy security for the state.

Highlighting AP’s renewable energy ambitions, Vijayanand said AP Transco is developing extra high tension infrastructure for the vertical integrated solar PV manufacturing units coming up at Chevuru and Karedu villages in SPSR Nellore district.

The initiative is expected to boost local employment and position AP as a renewable energy manufacturing hub.

Vijayanand said AP had secured allocation of 3GWh battery energy storage system capacity under the centre’s power system development fund scheme. AP Transco has been appointed nodal agency for seven second-phase BESS projects and has initiated competitive bidding for 1,000mw standalone storage systems across 10 locations.

The special CS said proposals worth Rs 21,838 crore under green energy corridor phase-III had also been submitted for evacuation of large-scale solar and pumped storage power projects in the state.
