AP Hikes Minimum Fee To ₹47,000 Per Seat In Private Engineering Colleges

The managements of private engineering colleges have approached the government with a request to revise the fees as the three-years term of the previously fixed fee was over. They claimed that they suffered a lot due to “irrational fixation” of the fees during the YSR Congress period. They also said they would continue with the existing number of seats with no addition in the new academic year.

Education minister Nara Lokesh is learnt to have given an assurance to the managements that the minimum fee per seat would be raised to `47,000 from the `40,000 fixed by the YSR Congress government.

The highest fee prevailing at present per seat is ₹1.05 lakh and this also may be revised.

The managements have been advised to go ahead with the admission process for the new academic year with the minimum fee of `47,000 per seat. However, students will be informed at the time of admission that, once the fee gets revised in the next two to three months, in case they pay extra, the additional amount will be refunded.

If the fee is fixed more than what they had paid, they are supposed to pay the balance amount.

AP private engineering college managements association president K Subba Rao said, “We have asked the government to revise the fee for the new academic year by giving undertakings that they intend to continue with the same number of seats that existed in the last year. However, it has permitted us to shuffle the seats among the departments based on demand from the students.”

Meanwhile, representatives of the managements of the private engineering colleges criticised the previous YSR Congress government for “reducing the fee to some colleges and hiking fee to others” irrespective of the availability of infrastructure, faculty members and quality of teaching and other amenities.
