AP Govt to Hold Joint Staff Council Meeting on July 21

The minister said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was committed to resolving the employees' issues while taking into account the state's financial position

VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh government on Saturday said it would convene a Joint Staff Council (JSC) meeting on July 21 to discuss the long-pending demands of government employees.

The assurance was given during a meeting at the State Secretariat between representatives of the AP JAC Amaravati Employees’ Associations and a ministerial committee comprising information and public relations and housing minister Kolusu Parthasarathy and revenue, registration and stamps minister Anagani Satya Prasad.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Parthasarathy said finance minister Payyavula Keshav could not attend due to prior engagements. He said the employee associations had submitted a memorandum containing 23 demands, all of which had been examined.

The minister said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was committed to resolving the employees' issues while taking into account the state's financial position.

He announced that the Joint Staff Council meeting would be chaired by the Chief Secretary on July 21 and attended by representatives of all employee organisations. Discussions would also be held with the finance minister before the meeting to examine possible solutions, he added.

Parthasarathy appealed to employee unions to defer their proposed agitation in view of the government's ongoing consultations.

Satya Prasad said the discussions with employee representatives were held in a cordial atmosphere and reiterated the government's commitment to addressing their concerns through the joint staff council mechanism.

He said the government had studied all 23 demands and would work towards resolving them through consultations. If required, the Joint Staff Council meeting could be advanced to an earlier date, he added.

Earlier, AP JAC Amaravati chairman Bopparaju Venkateswarlu and other representatives submitted a memorandum outlining issues related to employee welfare, service matters and other pending demands.

The ministers assured the delegation that each issue would be examined sympathetically and placed before the Chief Minister. They also said the government would continue consultations with employee organisations to strengthen coordination while giving priority to employee welfare and efficient governance.

Representatives of various government employees' associations attended the meeting.
