Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh has bagged the prestigious Leadership State in Renewable Energy Investment Mobilisation Award for attracting major investments in the renewable energy sector, with 97 mega clean energy projects worth nearly Rs 4 lakh crore sanctioned since June 2024.

The projects have the potential to create 4.71 lakh jobs.

The award was presented at the 8th International Trade Fair & Conference — Windergy India 2026 — at the Chennai Trade Centre on Thursday. Union renewable energy minister Pralhad Joshi presented the award, along with Tamil Nadu’s energy minister CTR Nirmal Kumar. NREDCAP’s vice-chairman and managing director M Kamalakar Babu received it on behalf of the state government.

The sanctioned projects include 26.45gw of solar and 5.86gw of wind capacity, besides 19.95gw of pumped storage hydro projects aimed at ensuring round-the-clock grid stability. The state has also approved 12.6MWh of battery energy storage systems, 2.20 mmtpa of green hydrogen and its derivatives, 2gw of electrolyser manufacturing capacity, and compressed biogas units with a capacity of 11,521 tonnes per day.

The three-day conference, being held from October 7 to 9, is jointly organised by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the Ministry of Power, and the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association under the theme Wind – Powering India’s Energy Resilience.
