NELLORE: Minister for social welfare Dr Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy on Saturday said the courage and sacrifice of freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju should continue to inspire future generations.

Paying floral tributes to Alluri’s statue in Ongole on the occasion of his 129th birth anniversary, the minister, along with MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, joint collector Kalpana Kumari, MLAs Damacharla Janardhana Rao, B.N. Vijay Kumar and Mukku Ugra Narasimha Reddy, recalled the tribal leader’s contribution to India’s freedom struggle.

He also noted that the government had named the Bhogapuram International Airport after the freedom fighter.

Srinivasulu Reddy said the state government remained committed to the welfare of tribal communities in line with Alluri's ideals.

Officials, public representatives and tribal leaders attended the programme.
