Rare Two-Headed Buffalo Foetus Delivered at NTR Veterinary Hospital
Doctors said the condition had resulted in dystocia, making normal delivery difficult.
Vijayawada:Veterinary doctors at the NTR super speciality veterinary hospital successfully handled a rare case involving the delivery of a two-headed buffalo foetus.
According to the veterinary team, the buffalo was brought to the hospital with prolonged labour and difficulty in calving. An obstetrical examination revealed a rare congenital foetal anomaly known as “dicephalus”, a condition classified under “Monstrum duplicia”, characterised by two heads on a single body.
Doctors said the condition had resulted in dystocia, making normal delivery difficult.
The case was handled by veterinary gynaecologist Dr A. Kiran Chand, who successfully relieved the dystocia and saved the life of the buffalo.
The veterinary team described the case as a rare congenital anomaly.
