Andhra Pradesh: IGZP Raises ₹1.46 Lakh Through Animal Adoption Drive

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP) in Visakhapatnam raised ₹1,46,100 through its Animal Adoption Programme, with children and families adopting animals to mark birthdays and support their welfare.
According to curator G. Mangamma, 10 animals were adopted, including Himalayan goral, parrot, leopard, striped hyena, Himalayan black bear, Royal Bengal tiger and spotted deer.
Among the adopters were Reddy Vihaan Vardhan, who supported four animals, including a Himalayan goral and a leopard, and Siyan Tanvi, who adopted a Royal Bengal tiger, a Himalayan black bear and a spotted deer. Hema Aishwarya Gollu, Sattaru Kanishkaa, Sattaru Papinaidu and Sattaru Arudhra were among the other adopters.
Adopters were presented with certificates and souvenir kits. Officials said the programme allows individuals, families, institutions and corporate bodies to contribute to wildlife conservation and animal welfare.
The adoption drive was facilitated by the curator and assistant curators, along with forest officers and staff. Donations under the programme are eligible for tax exemption under Section 80G(5) of the Income-tax Act, 1961, under the Old Tax Regime.
