VISAKHAPATNAM: The renovated facilities at the Government Queen Mary’s Girls’ High School near the Old Post Office in South constituency here were inaugurated on Friday, giving students a safer, improved learning environment.

The renovation cost ₹35 lakh from the Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) of the local MP.

The project addressed concerns raised by school authorities and local residents about the building's deteriorating condition. Damaged ceilings and corridors, along with the absence of parapet walls, posed safety risks to students.

The project included repairs and strengthening of ceilings, corridors, verandahs, walls and sunshades, as well as other infrastructure upgrades.

Officials said they prioritised student safety and welfare while carrying out the work.

Speaking at the programme, Visakhapatnam MP, M Sribharat, said improving infrastructure at government schools was essential to raising educational standards and strengthening public confidence in government institutions. He said the state government was implementing several initiatives to upgrade school facilities and create better learning environments.

He said ensuring quality education, safe campuses, and adequate infrastructure for every student was a shared responsibility. Development of educational institutions would continue to receive priority under MPLADS in the constituency, he said.

Education department representatives said the upgraded facilities would improve classroom conditions and create a more conducive learning environment.

TDP Visakhapatnam South constituency in-charge Seetham Raju Sudhakar, the school headmistress, Samagra Shiksha officials, teachers and staff members attended the programme.
