If we look at the words “worldly life”, what do they mean? Most people lead their lives to achieve the same goal — happiness. To attain happiness, everyone follows a similar path. People begin their life as children needing food, clothing, shelter, love, education, health, safety and friendship. After graduating from school, they look for a job or start a family and look to acquire the objects that are essential to life — a place to reside, transport and money. They do this either for their families or themselves. After that they acquire things to attain their goal in life. The rest of their lives are spent ensuring they have enough money to live by.

Thus, “worldly life” entails actions aimed at sustenance in this world. It is within this framework that people also seek happiness.  Many believe that happiness comes from acquiring more worldly objects, which, in turn, will happen only when they have more money. Others consider happiness to stem from name, fame or power. Many times even the rich, famous and powerful are not happy and they continue to seek something more; something that would truly make them happy. Possessing the kind of happiness that we seek, be it in wealth, power or fame can become a cause for misery if we lose these repositories of happiness.

This shows that nothing is everlasting. Especially material happiness, since objects are subject to decay or loss. Then how does one become happy in a true, immaterial and lasting sense? The only lasting happiness comes from connecting to the treasures within us — not material but spiritual. Our spiritual essence is a drop of the power that creates everything around us — that is love, consciousness, bliss and joy.

Once we tap into this reservoir of power within, we can swim in the ocean of divine love, peace and happiness, which puts us in a state of ecstasy and joy that lasts. We are connected to the source within of all wisdom, bliss, ecstasy and fearlessness. Living in such a state enriches our life. Then, no matter what our outer circumstances — rich or poor, famous or not, powerful or a simpleton — we are happy.

Meditation provides this joy and happiness. It helps fulfil our true purpose in life: to know our self as soul. If one is  looking for spiritual awakening and knowledge of our soul, the Creator and spiritual realms within, it is available through meditation on the inner light and sound.
