Firecracker Factory Explosion; 2 More Workers Die, Death Toll Rises To 5, Unit Owner Arrested

BHOPAL: Two more workers, injured in the explosion in the firecracker factory in Madhya Pradesh’s Dewas district, succumbed during treatment, taking the death toll in Thursday’s tragic incident to five.
As many as 23 other workers injured in the incident were currently undergoing treatment at various hospitals, officials said on Friday.
“Two more workers succumbed to their injuries, taking the death toll in the incident to five”, Dewas additional district magistrate Sanjeev Jain said.
In another development, the owner of the factory, identified as Anil Malvya, was arrested under National Security Act (NSA).
His licence has been suspended.
Chief minister Mohan Yadav on Friday visited the injured workers admitted in the MY Hospital in Indore.
“We have promptly taken action in the incident. The owner of the firecracker factory has been booked under the NSA. A detailed investigation into the incident is being conducted”, Mr. Yadav said.
Sources said that officials from the Union government’s Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization (PESU), the state Pollution Control Board, and the Forensic Science Laboratory are investigating the explosion in the factory.
