MUMBAI: The Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena on Friday held a protest outside Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut’s residence over his X post in which he called youths of the country “drifting and dim-witted.” The BJP also attacked Raut calling him ‘mentally ill.’

Raut took to social media to share a post featuring a photograph of Vladimir Lenin, accompanied by a quote, “If you wish to destroy a nation, destroy the thinking capacity of its youth. (Currently, Indian youth have become similarly misguided and intellectually dull, Jai Shri Ram)."

In protest against this post, a demonstration was staged outside Raut’s residence at Bhandup by the Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena. As the Shiv Sainiks marched toward Raut’ s residence, the police attempted to intercept them. During this incident, scuffles took place between the police and the activists.

Furthermore, the activists also attempted to smear black ink on a photograph of Raut. The protest was staged and a sit-in demonstration was held. To prevent any untoward incidents, the police detained the activists. A heavy police deployment is currently stationed outside Sanjay Raut's residence.

BJP spokesperson Navnath Ban also criticized Raut’s remarks. He stated, “Raut has become so engrossed in searching for quotes by Lenin that you completely forgot what the Indian youth are actually doing. The very youth whom you label as ‘dim-witted’ are today building startups, launching missions to the Moon, running the country, guarding our borders, and - through their votes - showing people like you the harsh reality.”

“In truth, the intellectual capacity of the youth has not diminished; they have simply begun to ignore the kind of politics that “wakes up every morning just to peddle despair.” If you claim that the youth have gone astray simply because they chant “Jai Shri Ram,” then bear in mind that the acclamation of Ram has resonated across India for thousands of years,” Ban added.
