Aizawl: Former Union minister and senior BJP leader Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad on Saturday said that the saffron party has set its sights on forming the government in Mizoram after the 2028 Assembly polls.
Addressing a reception organised at the BJP office here, Karad, the newly appointed Mizoram state in-charge, said the party would work to strengthen its organisation and resolve issues faced by its members at various levels.
"I have come here to strengthen the BJP in Mizoram and work to ensure development in the state," Karad said, adding that the party's objective was to form the government to work for the people and address their grievances.
Karad said the BJP's state and central units were connected and that problems faced at the grassroots level were also a concern for the party's central leadership.
He called upon party workers to work together towards the 2028 Assembly elections.
Karad recalled his earlier visits to Mizoram during his tenure as Union Minister of State for Finance, including to Mamit district as part of the Centre's focus on Aspirational districts in the Northeast.
Later, Karad participated in a programme organised under the party's 'Seva Sankalp Abhiyan', where gifts were distributed to Thutak Nunpuitute Team (TNT), a privately run orphanage and rehabilitation centre at Zuangtui on the outskirts of Aizawl.
The BJP now has 2 MLAs in the 40-member Mizoram Assembly.
The two MLAs are from Siaha district in the southern part of the state.
