BERHAMPORE: Young Sagardighi MLA Bayron Biswas, now belonging to Democratic Trinamul Congress, suffered burn injuries on Saturday morning when he tried to douse a fire that broke out at his family-run bidi factory in his residence in Murshidabad of West Bengal. He was later admitted to his hospital for treatment.

Local residents saw a dark smoke billowing out of Mr Biswas’ palatial residence at Dhuliyan at around 10.30 am. They rushed there and traced the smoke to ‘Jeet’ bidi factory which was already on fire. Mr Biswas, who was at home then, jumped to douse the blaze. He however suffered burns in hands and legs and was admitted to his own hospital, O2.

The MLA is undergoing treatment at ICU there. Meanwhile, two fire tenders doused the flames after two hours. The district administration later tried to shift Mr Biswas to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) for better treatment but Mr Biswas refused.

MMCH superintendent Dr. Anindya Chowdhury said that the injured MLA did not arrive at the facility though arrangements for his admission were made. While the cause of the fire remains a mystery, the cops have come to know about a family feud among the siblings over the control of their bidi business.

The tiff reached a peak on Friday night when Mr Biswas allegedly threatened his elder brother and sister at gunpoint forcing them to leave the address. Chief minister Suvendu Adhikari enquired of Mr Biswas’ health condition and wished him a quick recovery.
