Hyderabad: The City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar warned that no leniency will be shown towards motorists driving under the influence of alcohol during New Year celebrations.

In a post on X, Sajjanar said special drunken driving checks will be conducted on Tuesday night at 120 locations across Hyderabad. He added that the special enforcement drive will continue throughout the first week of January.

Those caught driving after consuming alcohol will face heavy fines, seizure of vehicles, possible jail terms and cancellation of driving licences, he said. Strict action will also be taken against rash driving, triple riding and creating nuisance in public places.

Advising citizens to prioritise safety, Sajjanar urged people who have consumed alcohol to avoid driving and instead use cabs or designated drivers. He appealed to the public to celebrate the New Year safely with family and friends.
