WhatsApp goes desi: Vodafone, WhatsApp join hands to promote chat in local language
To date, WhatsApp has over 200 million active users in India alone. The app features 10 local Indian languages on its platform for conversation. In a bid to beef up its usage in the country, WhatsApp and Vodafone India has joined hands to promote the platform’s usage among Indians in local languages. The telecom operator has built customised pages in various Indian languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Bengali and Tamil to drive the adoption of the newly introduced local language on WhatsApp.
The interface has been built with an animated step-by-step approach displaying the option of changing to different Indian languages while chatting, making it easier for users to setup the local language option for the app. It will also allow users to update status, or even share messages in the preferred local language.
“Language choice is an important feature for our users and we are happy to stand together with Vodafone on this education initiative that makes messaging on WhatsApp an even better experience,” said Neeraj Arora, Vice President, WhatsApp.
