Surgeon Who Prescribes ‘Reps’ Before ‘Remedies’

In a surgical field driven by scans, scopes, and speed, one orthopaedist is taking a different path. For Dr Kishore B. Reddy, fitness is not a hobby—it is a philosophy. Strength first, treatment later

Tall, energetic, and visibly fit, Dr Kishore B. Reddy lives the message he gives his patients, “strength fuels longevity.” Leading orthopaedic and musculoskeletal oncology specialist, he anchors his long, high-pressure days in movement—no matter how packed the calendar gets.“Even if I get only 40 minutes, I make sure I give that time to fitness,” he says. Weight training and cycling form the core of his routine, building the stamina needed for marathon surgeries and precision-driven procedures. For him, fitness isn’t an indulgence. It is an operating-room requirement.
His love for bodybuilding began at Pune University and evolved from a youthful hobby into a lifelong discipline. “Fitness teaches patience and dedication,” he reflects. “These are qualities every doctor must carry into their practice.”
Dr Reddy’s approach to care extends far beyond prescriptions. He believes in physician-led example, doctors must embody what they advise. “Movement is medicine,” he insists, emphasising how simple, consistent activity can prevent lifestyle diseases and slow musculoskeletal degeneration.
Balancing leadership at the hospital with complex surgical responsibilities, he remains unwavering about self-care. “Patients look up to us,” he says. “If we don’t practice healthy living, how can we inspire them to?”
Among all forms of movement, cycling outdoors remains his favourite escape. The speed, the fresh air, the solitude — these moments help him reset. “Fitness is not just physical,” he explains. “It keeps my stress in check and helps me think clearly.”
