Mumbai: India cricket team held its nerve to seal a thrilling last-ball win against Bangladesh in ICC World Twenty20 on Wednesday.
However, a fan in Gorakhpur died of heart attack following India’s victory.
According to reports, Om Prakash Shukla, an elderly man from Bistauli village in Uttar Pradesh, complained of severe chest pain after Bangladesh wicketkepper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim struck two back-to-back boundaries off Hardik Pandya in the final over of the match.
Bangladesh, who needed 11 runs in the final over to seal their first win in T20 cricket against India, were then required two runs of last three balls.
While Pandya redeemed himself dismissing Rahim and Mahmudullah on consecutive deliveries before MS Dhoni’s brilliant run out of Mustafizur Rahman powered India to a win, the Indian cricket team fan lost his life.
It is learnt that Shukla used to run a grocery store in Delhi before he and his family moved to Uttar Pradesh. Shukla is survived by three sons.
