Rohit’s captaincy stint with the Men in Blue didn’t pan out as he would have liked as they suffered a shock defeat to the visitors in the first ODI. However, they bounced back with two comprehensive wins to take home the trophy. The 30-year-old on Monday posted an emotional tweet regarding his experience as skipper and expressed his desire of leading the national team.

"A day that I will remember for the rest of my life. Walking out with the team sheet for the 1st time was a feeling of its own which can never be measured or compared with anything. Proud to be playing with the guys who have such great skill set & work ethic. Cannot be more happier,” Rohit wrote.

Rohit had a series to remember as he smashed his third double century, scoring an unbeaten 208 of 153 balls in the 2nd ODI that eventually resulted in the hosts drawing level at 1-1. Despite failing to replicate the same form in the series decider, knocks from Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer were enough to steer India through.

The India opener also hailed the fightback from him boys after the morale-shattering loss at Dharmasala.

"(It was a) terrific comeback after the first game in Dharamsala. We showed plenty of character. This has been the hallmark of the team. Whenever we were defeated, we have always come back strong. I think the first game was a bit testing as a captain, because we didn't put enough runs on the board, and in the second game since we had runs I had the luxury to try out a few things, and today was perfect. Whenever we put into tough situations, we responded well. We played as a team and that's what counts at the end of the day,“ he explained.

The hosts will now shift focus to the three-match T20 series commencing on Wednesday at the Barabati Stadium, Cuttack.
