VVS Laxman hails 'impact batsmen' Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan

India clinched their 8th consecutive bilateral ODI series win as they beat Sri Lanka 2-1 in 3-match ODI series.

Visakhapatnam: Former India cricketer-turned-commentator VVS Laxman lauded the trio of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan as India capped off a fantastic ODI season with yet another series win.

The home team defeated Sri Lanka by eight wickets in the third and final ODI of the series, which also happened to be their last ODI assignment in 2017, to win their successive eighth bilateral ODI series.

While Kohli, who got married to Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma did not feature in the ODI series, Rohit Sharma-led Indian side continued their domination of Sri Lanka by winning the series 2-1, after being 0-1 down in Dharamsala.

While Kohli has been phenomenal in 2017 across formats, in the shorter formats of the game, he has found an ably allies in form of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan as the trio has scored heavily this year.

While Rohit scored 1293 runs in 21 ODIs with the help of six hundreds, averaging 71.83 in 2017, Virat, in 26 matches scored 1460 runs at an average of 76.84 and had six hundreds against his name.

Meanwhile, Dhawan scored 960 runs from 22 ODIs in 2017, scoring three hundreds to take his tally of ODI hundreds to 12.

The stylish Hyderabadi batsman, Laxman, lauded termed Rohit, Kohli and Dhawan as “impact batsmen” following India’s win at the ACA-VDCA Stadium on Sunday.

"All the three batsmen finish the game. Rohit Sharma played 50 overs in Mohali, today it was Shikhar Dhawan. Virat Kohli has done that 'n' number of times. That is so important," said Laxman during the post-match show on Star Sports, the official broadcasters of the series.

"It's not only getting to personal milestones. It's about finishing the match. That's why India is lucky to have these three batsmen, who are impact batsmen. Their high strike rate means they are dictating the terms, not allowing the bowlers to do so. They take the responsibility and that's why India has had a fantastic 2017," added the Indian great.
