Congress Wins 7 of 11 in Postponed Civic Polls
Three Municipalities Deferred Again; Model Code of Conduct Lifted

Hyderabad: Elections to the posts of Chairpersons and Vice Chairpersons in municipalities and Mayors and Deputy Mayors in municipal corporations, which were earlier put on hold due to lack of quorum, were taken up on Tuesday. Out of the 11 urban local bodies where the process was rescheduled, elections were successfully completed in eight, while proceedings in three were postponed once again.
Of the eight where polling and counting were completed, the Congress party secured a dominant victory, winning seven urban local bodies. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) managed to win one municipality — Indresham.
In two municipalities — Janagaon and Thorrur — the results were decided through draw of lots after a tie between candidates, officials said.
The elections were conducted under tight security arrangements and in the presence of designated returning officers to ensure transparency in the process.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission announced that the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), which had been in force for the 2026 Municipalities and Municipal Corporations elections, has been lifted with the completion of the election process in the majority of the urban local bodies.
