IAF To Conduct Major Air Drill Near Border

Indian Navy too has been conducting firing exercise in the Arabian Sea. The drills will coincide with nationwide civil defence preparations in event of hostile military action.

New Delhi: As tensions escalate with Pakistan, the Indian Air Force's frontline fighter aircraft like the Rafale, Sukhoi-30s Mirage 2000 will be taking part in a two-day air exercise in the Rajasthan sector along the Indo-Pak border from Wednesday. In the course of the exercise, the IAF will hit simulated enemy targets on ground and in the air.

A 'notice to airmen' has been issued for May 7 and 8, close to the western border, and mainly in Rajasthan. During this period airspace in the region will be restricted to ensure safety and operational integrity.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday for the second straight day met National Security Adviser Ajit Doval to assess the situation in Kashmir and the government's next actions against Pakistan. Modi on Monday had held a series of meetings with defence secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, NSA Doval and home secretary Govind Mohan.

Last week, in a meeting with the top defence brass, Prime Minister Modi gave the armed forces "complete operational freedom" to decide on the mode, targets and timing of the response to the Pahalgam terror attack which killed 26 tourists. Modi also emphasised the national resolve to deal a "crushing blow to terrorism".
